Active Birth

The classes/workshops are held every two months and help couples prepare for all aspects of preparation for birth and how to cope with labour. They aim to give you the very best preparation for birth. They will introduce you and your partner to the practical elements of birth; breathing, massage, pressure points, positions, mental states and relaxation. They also cover the all-important days leading up to labour, including nutrition, hydration, issues of late pregnancy and induction and how induction can be avoided. They focus on the physiology of labour, what makes for a good birth environment, looking at both medical and midwife led models of birth.

Baby Massage

Baby Massage is an ancient tradition in many cultures, where massaging children regularly from just a day or two after they are born is still practised. Baby massage helps babies recover from birth, develop good sleep patterns, obtain relief from colic and even, in the case of pre-term babies, gain weight. Baby massage encourages feelings of wellbeing and can also assist with pain relief.

Meditation & Mindfulness

This is an 8 week stress reduction course based on mindfulness and meditation. Developing a regular Meditation practice can significantly reduce tension and stress levels, lower high blood pressure, reduce pain and aid the healing process. In addition, it can increase our ability to focus our attention. Through Meditation practice we begin to develop a level of inner quiet, creating a 'quiet space' that gives us the opportunity to choose, whether we 'act or react' in stressful situations.

Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness. Regular pilates practise can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension.

Tai Chi Chu'an & Qi Gong Classes

Tai Chi is often described as a moving meditation. This is because it combines movement with one of the essential ingredients of any kind of contemplation or meditation - that is calm and regular breathing. Because Tai Chi uses the principle of "soft limit" (i.e. avoiding the use of any unnecessary effort or stretching) it is an ideal form of exercise for any body, regardless of age, or physical strength and is often recommended as an aid to recovery following illness or injury.
